NRM Students Win 2019 International Day of Forests Debate

A team of three students from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) has won the 2019 International Day of Forests (2019 IDF) organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on 21 March 2019.

The AIT team of Sarathanjali Manoharan, Pimolporn Jintarith, and Megha Bajaj, who debated on the topic “Providing the youth with an equal opportunities to study forestry will help reduce inequality issues in the world,” emerged as winners at the event, which was co-organized by the FAO, the Center for People and Forests (RECOFTC), and United Nations Environment.

Dr. Nophea Sasaki (NRM Faculty) presented a presentation on “Technology Implementation for Smart Agriculture as a Case Study for Reforestation and Aquaculture.”

Speaking at the presentation of Dr. Nophea Sasaki, today, we release 40 billion tons of carbon per year, with about 2 billion acres of global food shortages that lead to this problem and a lack of data. Every year, 15 billion trees are destroyed by human and natural causes. Restoring Forests and Conservation in the Tropics, we lost 13 million hectares of forest in the last 30 years.

Dr.Indrajit Pal (DPMM) quoted in The Times of India on flood resilience

Children across the world have realised it’s now or never.

As youth worldwide skip schools today in protest to demand action on climate change, a group of girls in the flood-prone Indian state of Assam has approached politicians to include concerns such as flood-resilient infrastructure in election manifestos for the 2019 general elections.

Over 500 children of the age group 14 to 19 years were consulted to work out a‘Children’s Agenda’ focusing on health, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene and education and protection of children.
