NRM Students Win 2019 International Day of Forests Debate

A team of three students from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) has won the 2019 International Day of Forests (2019 IDF) organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations on 21 March 2019.

The AIT team of Sarathanjali Manoharan, Pimolporn Jintarith, and Megha Bajaj, who debated on the topic “Providing the youth with an equal opportunities to study forestry will help reduce inequality issues in the world,” emerged as winners at the event, which was co-organized by the FAO, the Center for People and Forests (RECOFTC), and United Nations Environment.

‘Team AIT’ students are champs at FAO debate competition to mark 2015 International Day of Forests

AIT’s international graduate students won top honors on 20 March 2014 against the team from Kasetsart University by debating as the negative team on the proposition: “That climate change means we should spend more money on protecting forests.”

The competition was organized by FAO at its headquarters to mark the International Day of Forests.

Team AIT included Master’s students Ms. Katika Punbuatoom from Thailand, and Ms. Sumitra KC and Pradeep Baral from Nepal. All three are students in the Natural Resources Management (NRM) field of study at the AIT School of Environment, Resources and Development. Ms. Sumitra KC was also awarded “Best Speaker” at the debate.
