My DAAD Storytelling – Reakshar Chhorn
DDS would like to warmly congratulate Reakshar Chhorn, Master’s student in the Development Planning Management and Innovation (DPMI) program, August 2022 batch for receiving DAAD Scholarship at AIT. The following is her storytelling journey with the DAAD scholarship recipient, which may serve as a guideline for those interested in applying for study at DDS.

My Journey
My name is Reakshar Chhorn. I am from Cambodia. Now I am pursuing a master’s degree in Development Planning Management and Innovation program (DPMI) under a regional scholarship of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand.
A life-changing opportunity and also a doorway for me to enter more deeply into the international community.

As a DAAD awardee, I am proud of myself because I am sure this is a life-changing opportunity and also a doorway for me to enter more deeply into the international community.
After a long time as a DAAD international scholarship hunter, I had changed my strategy to a regional scholarship program instead. I chose Thailand as my target destination country because I thought Thailand has many things similar to Cambodia like cultures, food, the way of living, the political system, and especially it is my neighboring country where I do not need to spend much time traveling from/to Cambodia. However, I also considered the strong collaboration and relationship in all sectors between Cambodia and Thailand which could benefit my future career. Yes, undoubtedly, the educational system and reputation in Thailand are well known and greatly recognized, especially in the region.
My friends and relatives always recommended that I should consider pursuing my Master’s degree dream at AIT because this educational institution is well known in Thailand in terms of an international standard of education, international student community, and various international programs. Hence, I decided to navigate AIT’s website and then found my interesting program and many funding opportunities to make my dream come true.
I chose the master’s degree in Development Planning Management and Innovation (DPMI) because I want to gain new skills in Planning and Management for any Development by using new tools in an innovative way. All of these skills are needed for the job markets so far. Without comprehensive planning, development could hurt poor people and the next generation.
In AIT, all staff, professors, and my advisor here is very skillful, supportive, and respond very quickly. The environment here is the best for me. I can say I am studying in a great social-ecological environment that I hardly find in any universities in my country. Moreover, what I am so satisfied with the most is the dormitory at AIT. AIT allows students to live in very comfortable dorms where I feel like I am home. More interestingly, I can taste different kinds of meals from different regions in three restaurants on the AIT campus. Sports facilities like a swimming pool, playground, fitness center, and others are one on the AIT Campus.
In short, at AIT, I am provided with a resourceful space to develop my professional skills and expand my networks with multinational students studying at AIT. I am proud to bring these valuable experiences to serve back to my country and make a positive impact. I encourage all scholarship hunters to do your best to achieve your dream by using multiple integrity ways and different scholarship programs.
