Introduction to The International Day of Forests

The International Day of Forests, observed annually on March 21st, serves as a global platform to celebrate the vital role of forests in sustaining life on Earth. This day underscores the importance of forests to the planet, highlighting their intrinsic value in biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation, and the livelihoods of billions of people worldwide. In 2024, under the theme “Forests and Innovation,” we emphasize the pivotal role that innovative technologies and approaches play in fostering the sustainability and resilience of forest ecosystems worldwide.

NRM’s Yearly Celebration

In alignment with our commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, the Natural Resources Management (NRM) program at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) proudly commemorates this significant day through our annual event. This year, we are excited to introduce the AI Art Competition, a unique convergence of creativity, technology, and environmental consciousness designed to inspire a deeper appreciation and understanding of our forests.

Scope and Aims

The AI Art Competition aims to:

• Foster a creative dialogue on the significance of forests and the potential of innovations in sustaining their health and diversity.
• Engage the AIT community in reflecting on the critical role forests play in our lives and in the health of our planet.
• Showcase the imaginative power of AI in generating art that captures the essence of forests and their importance to global ecosystems.

Call for Participation

We invite all students to participate in this enriching competition. Whether you are an artist at heart, a technology enthusiast, or someone passionate about environmental conservation, this is a unique opportunity to express your creativity and contribute to raising awareness about the significance of forests. Let your imagination run wild, and let’s celebrate the beauty and importance of forests through the lens of AI-generated art.

Purpose of the Competition

To foster creativity and raise awareness about the importance of forests on the International Day of Forests, March 21, 2024, through the innovative intersection of art and artificial intelligence.

Entrants Requirements

Open to all AIT students. Submit your AI-generated artwork by March 18, 2024, along with your personal details (name, student ID, program, contact information).

Technical and Submission Requirements

• Artworks must utilize AI generative techniques, reflecting the theme “Forests and Innovations.”
• Indicate the AI platform used (e.g., DALL·E 3 by OpenAI, Designer by Microsoft, ChatGPT-4, Bing, etc.).
• Provide the prompt used for generating the artwork.
• Include a brief explanation of the artwork, highlighting its connection to the theme.

Obligations and Authorization for Publication

Participants must ensure the originality of their submissions and respect copyright laws. By participating, you grant AIT permission to display your artwork on official channels for public viewing.

Prizes and Personal Data

Exciting cash prizes will be unveiled on March 21, 2024, during the Eloquence competition. Participant’s personal data will be handled with utmost confidentiality.
