Welcome Dr. Monira Ahsan, our IDRC-supported Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Center on Gender and Forced Displacement (CGFD), Gender and Development Studies, AIT. With a focus on gender in forced displacement, your research examines the implications for academia, policy, and practice. Your expertise in Forced Displacement, Refugee, and Migration; Health Policy and Systems; Climate Justice; Gender Equality and Social Inclusion; Intersectionality; and Social and Public Policy will greatly contribute to our work.

Dr. Monira Ahsan is an IDRC-supported Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Center on Gender and Forced Displacement (CGFD), Gender and Development Studies in the Department of Development and Sustainability at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). Monira’s research focuses on the Intersectional analysis of Gender in Forced Displacement and the implications for academic, policy and practice across the humanitarian-development-peace nexus. Drawing on the Human Security and Capability Approach, Monira’s current research examines the Gender Dimensions of Forcibly Displaced Refugees in South and Southeast Asian regions.

Monira received her PhD in Public Policy from the Australian National University and her Master’s in Social Policy and Development from the London School of Economics, the University of London, complementing a Master’s and Bachelor of Honours in International Relations from the University of Dhaka. Since her PhD, Monira has been intensively engaging with displacement, migration, and refugee studies encompassing academic, policy and practice, and undertook several major research projects concerning irregular migration and forced displacement in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Somaliland with Universities, INGOs, and UN Agencies.
