The Department of Development and Sustainability is pleased to invite you to the Special Lecture titled Psychometric Scale Construction Techniques for research and practice in Social Sciences by Dr. Asif Mohammad, ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, India. He currently working as a Senior Scientist in the section of Dairy Extension at the Eastern Regional Station of ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute, Kalyani, India. He has completed his B.Sc. (Agriculture) from Visva Bharati University, India and obtained his M.Sc. & Ph.D in Dairy Extension from ICAR- National Dairy Research Institute, India.
Abstract
Psychometric scales are the most often used measures in surveys, making them one of the most popular research tools in social science research. However, even experienced researchers and practitioners in social sciences frequently misunderstand or are unaware of the complicated ideas and procedures that underlie multi-item psychometric scaling techniques. Researchers must have a thorough understanding of complex technical processes and problems that are frequently inadequately explained or misinterpreted. Scales with low validity may not measure the required variables, whereas unreliable scales result in an inconsistent assessment of variables. For measuring respondent’s/ subject’s attitude/ feeling as well as behaviour, several scaling techniques are used. The purpose of this special lecture is to offer a thorough and complete overview of the structure, administration, use, and data analysis of psychometric scales for social science research and practice.
