RRDP is a program under the Department of Development and Sustainability (DDS), Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Pathumthani, Thailand. The RRDP program focuses on rural poverty, improvement of the quality of life and social and economic development of rural areas. Practice oriented rural-regional planning is carried out regularly at district and sub-district levels following a participatory and integrated approach. Attention is paid to management of development institutions, infrastructure and physical resources. Sectoral and spatial planning are equally emphasized along with the management of rural development programs and local development projects to strengthen communities for sustainable development.

The courses are structured and offered sequentially to enrich theoretical and conceptual learning of the students followed by methods and techniques and application through planning workshop course as well as in thesis research. A good number of complementary courses are suggested to fulfill specific requirements of individual candidates relating to gender development, natural resource management and geographic information system, disaster preparedness mitigation and management within RRDP specialization. Candidates have the choice to design their own study plan following the rules of RRDP specialization.
Either Thesis or Research Study option is available along with courses to complete Master Program.
Doctoral candidates need to do 18/24 credits course work first before getting into thesis research.
